Mary West of Daydream Creations will be doing a two hour workshop on making your own embellished corset for your doll at the convention!
Pattern pieces will be pre-cut and many trims will be available, and she'll have extra kits available for an additional cost at the workshop. We will even have the sewing machines on site provided by Jackman's Fabrics! This workshop will be free - but limited to 18 participants. When you register make sure to select the option if you're interested in the workshop (those who have already registered will be receiving an email from Jenny soon). Editor's note: Connie Lowe is the person that ran the awesome shoe shop last year, Mary West will be the person running the corset making workshop this year. Also, Jen gets names confused easily! Sorry for the mixup! Click to set custom HTML You may have seen her amazing creations on Etsy or DeviantART. Maybe you've heard rumors of her ball-jointed ponies (the kind with magical friendships.) Perhaps you are pining for one of her Octo-ling boys, but can't decide whether to buy the one with the magnetic tentacles or the one with the ball-jointed tentacles!
Silverbeam is the name of a fantastic new BJD artist who creates her dolls using 3D printing. She creates many amazingly detailed accessories for BJDs as well using this technology. We are very proud to showcase Silverbeam as our newest Guest of Honor at our 2013 Convention! Stay tuned for more information about this artist and our official convention doll... Check out her Etsy store here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Silverbeam Amidst crazy St. Louis weather and tea parties, we've been busily working on making the convention for this year bigger and better!
At our last meeting, we discussed the logistics of what hours we wanted the convention to run this year. We will be expanding our hours from last year! The Dealer's room would be open from 12-6. We'll wrap up at the convention site around 6pm to have a Meet and Greet event at 7. Saturday Doors will open for breakfast at 9am, with programming continuing at 10. The Dealer's room will be open 9-5. Lunch will be served around 1pm and the Grand Banquet will start around 6. Sunday We will be continuing our tradition of Field Trip Sunday - stay tuned for more details closer to the convention! We're also hard at work talking with artists about the convention doll this year - we may have official updates for that soon! What kind of doll would you like to see? Post in the comments below! What a fun event!
Our Tea Social was a huge success, and several of our guests sought me out to tell me what a great time they were having. We had a wide assortment of guests who all made new friends! Each of the tables was a special world unto itself. The Hello Kitty table had special Hello Kitty tablewear and decorations, and a delicious "Strawberry Rose" tea that smelled like candy. Mmm! There was a table celebrating St. Patrick's Day, overflowing with green decorations and hosted by two spritely folk wearing very festive green outfits. I hear their green tea was delicious! The Blue and White table was an elegant victorian tea party, with floral centerpieces and the most beautiful blue and white tea set! The hostess was gorgeous in her vintage dress and hostess apron, too! The Dragon table was a fantasy realm of eastern and western dragons, plus dragon well tea and our Mistress of Tea. Of course, Rocking Out With Pink was a fun contemporary table with a miniature rock concert portrayed by ball-jointed dolls as a centerpiece. Each of the Our own Mistress of Tea, Jen Patton, had a fun and funny presentation about the mysteries of tea. She spoke about the different kinds of teas, the interesting customs surrounding tea from around the world, and fielded questions from the audience. Thanks, Jen! The Raffle was very well received, what with the many interesting pieces available. Etched glasses, Specialty candle holders, gift baskets packed with goodies, a two-story doll house, an Heirloom doll, some fashion dolls, and many other fun items were in the raffle. Since everyone got at least five tickets just for attending, the raffle was a huge hit! The Dollar Table was a lot of fun, too! Everyone wanted to spend the whole day shopping and carefully choosing their items. There were plush animals, hardcover books, tools, doll clothes, wigs, doll shoes, toys, and dozens of interesting and valuable things to be had on the special table. Plus we raised $100 for the OBC food pantry with the Dollar Table! We will have to continue this tradition here in the St. Louis area. Thank you, Kansas City Doll Clubs, for sharing this amazing experience with us, and teaching us how it works! We all had so much fun that we'd like to do this again sometime soon. Stay tuned for more information! Here are all the photos from this event: http://www.flickr.com/groups/2167278@N20/ On Saturday, March 16th, at 2pm, we will be hosting a tea party as a fundraiser for the convention!
If you're in town that weekend, we'd love to see you! Please join us and bring your doll and non-doll friends! Each of our tables will be decorated to various themes and hosted by a different member of our committee. While we enjoy tea and a marvelous buffet, there will be a special guest to speak about tea customs through the years. Our Dollar Table Sale will raise funds for the OBC food pantry, and our amazing raffle will raise funds for the St. Louis BJD Convention. For more information, Click Here to go to the Tea Party page! KawaKon is a local Anime-and-more convention that has been showcasing awesome BJD programming for the past several years. Some of our amazing committee members met at this fun event in years past, and we wanted to add to the fun this year.
It's a PJ BJD Party! On Friday night at the convention (and yes, you can buy a one-day badge) the St. Louis BJD Convention is hosting a PJ party for you and your dolls! Bring your dolls in their Jammies, and wear your own favorite sleepwear. We are going to have party snacks for humans to eat and a dolly-food making area where you can use polymer clay to create snack foods for your BJDs. There will be ghost stories, "old-school" cartoons to watch, and lots of fun opportunities to meet other dolls and their people. Raffle Mania! We will also have a raffle going on in the dealer's room. Our Chairman, Jenny, will be there all weekend so feel free to swing by and say hello. Don't forget to buy some raffle tickets while you're at it! A Full Track of BJD Programming! Our Assistant Chairman, Tricia, has put together a very full track of BJD-oriented programming called "Doll Festival" or Hinamatsuri. We will be having hands-on workshops, discussion groups, and a Project Cosplay open workshop for both dolls and humans. We will be sculpting dolls out of paper clay, creating custom eyes, crafting wigs out of specialty yarn, and many more fun activities. www.kawakon.com Please come out and join us at Kawa Kon and bring your dolls! The last of the Spark the Wyvern dolls have arrived! We are having a little dolly Little Christmas get together at OBC tonight to distribute them. We will meet up at 7pm and the party will likely go until 10pm or so.
Anyone who came to the convention is welcome to come to our little gathering. It is pot luck and there might even be some presents! We will also have a small sales table in case anyone has holiday cash they want to spend. There will be a face-up area as well, with some spray sealant, pastels, watercolor pencils, kneaded erasers, paint brushes, acrylics and more. We thought that perhaps some people might want to add details to their little Spark dolls, but feel free to get in some "face time" with another doll if you like. And now, a little bit of Holiday Cheer to share during the last few days of Christmas. This photo was taken at the Galleria and Santa was very gracious. So as we approach 12th night, may everyone have a merry "Little Christmas" and a Happy New Year! Hi Everyone!
We're starting the update for the 2013 edition of the convention! We'll be removing some of the information from the previous year to make room for the new information; however, if you'd like to look at what information we had from last year, we've made a website for it - 2012 St. Louis BJD Con Would you like a chance to acquire a limited edition Goodreau doll wearing a OOAK Charie Wilson outfit?
We have one up on ebay right now! This is Elise, who was dressed as a "Hippy Chick" for the Modern Doll Convention (a few years ago) and while she no longer has her hippy outfit, she is sporting a cute red curly wig and a gorgeous hand-crafted Charie Wilson outfit! All profits from this auction go toward the 2013 St. Louis BJD Convention.
